Baddha Konasana is also known as bound angle pose, throne pose, butterfly pose, cobbler’s pose, and bhadhrasana. Baddha Konasana is just like you are sitting in a meditation pose. Baddha Konasana asana is one of the best hip openers around. Baddha means bound and Kona means angle. Baddha Konasana has a number of benefits for your body and inner strength if done with full care and caution. It must be performed under the kind guidance of your guru and perform all the steps firmly one by one.

Steps to do Baddha Konasana

  1. Straighten your leg after sitting on the floor, raise your pelvis, exhale and bend your knees, pull your heels toward your pelvis, then drop your knees out to the sides and press the soles of your feet together.
  2. Bring your heels as close to your pelvis as much as you can do it comfortably, with the first, second finger and thumb, grasp the big toe of each foot, and keep the outer edges of the feet firmly on the floor. 
  3. Sit like the pubis will be infront and the tailbone in the backside is equidistant from the floor, the perineum will be approximately parallel to the floor. The pelvis in a neutral position, firm you sacrum and also shoulder blades against your back and lengthen your front torso through the top of the sternum.
  4. Never try to force your knee down and try to remain in the pose for 5 minutes at least. Then start inhaling, lift your knees away from the floor and extend your legs back to their original position.  
  5. For the beginners, if it is difficult to lower the knees towards the floor and if your knees are very high and your back is rounded, then be sure to sit on high support and even as high as a foot off the floor.
