The best attire for your yoga class

The best attire for your yoga class

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice that can aid you in improving your health, relieving your mind and improving general well being. As it is a series of exercises that are supposed to help relax your body and mind, the clothes you do your yoga routines in can either help or hinder your progress. There are a lot of options available on the market, and many different kinds of yoga pants and tops available everywhere you look. It can be hard to select the right clothes with so many options available, but there are a few things to keep in mind while selecting the best yoga attire.

The right kind of yoga clothing will be the one you feel most comfortable in. While it may be tempting to consider the style, fit, colour and brand before anything else, you need to keep in mind that your yoga session will be better if you’re feeling good in your clothing.

The things to keep in mind while you select your yoga attire are:

The Fit

Most of the yoga pants offered online are made of synthetic materials that are designed to cling to your skin and show off your shape. They’re also super stretchy, with Spandex clothing that can stretch to fit anyone, regardless of their unique shape. The stretchability also means that you can stretch for any pose and your fabric stretches with you.

But will you really feel comfortable in something that clings to your skin the entire time? This can often cause friction, no matter how little, and the feeling of the fabric constantly against your skin will be distracting in a yoga class. In this case, opting for looser, more flowing clothing would be the right way to go.

Clothing that does not cling to your skin will immediately impact your mood as well, and you will feel mentally and physically free. Loose clothing is meant for yoga, and just because it is loose doesn’t mean it cannot be fashionable at the same time. Additionally, in the end, your purpose should be to focus on your mind and body, and not your outfit. Loose clothing, especially when made with natural materials, will immediately be less distracting and more comfortable, allowing your yoga class to be more productive.

Moisture Absorption

No matter how light or intense your yoga session is, chances are you’re going to sweat at least a little. In this case, you want to be wearing a fabric that can absorb the moisture and keep it away from your skin. Fabrics that do not absorb moisture well can lead to all sorts of problems, from generally feeling moist and uncomfortable to skin irritation and even rashes.

There are quite a few synthetic fabrics available in the market that do a decent job at wicking away sweat and keeping the moisture locked inside the fabric, none of the synthetic materials come close to what materials made of natural fibres has to offer. Natural fibres are excellent at absorbing moisture, keeping you feeling fresh in your yoga clothing and allowing you to focus on your yoga session, rather than the sweat spots forming on your clothes or the sheen of sweat that just won’t go away.

Practicality of Usage

To truly benefit from what your yoga class has to offer, you should try and be regular with your sessions, and go as often as you can. Yoga can really bring a marked change in your lifestyle and general well-being, and when something impacts you in a positive way, you would want to try and make it a routine. How does this tie in with your yoga outfit?

Well, if you want to be regular with your yoga classes, you also need a reliable yoga outfit. You can get a few pairs of synthetic yoga outfits, but this could either turn out to be expensive, as good synthetic materials are not cheap, or detrimental in the long run, as you might wear out all your yoga outfits too soon.

Additionally, skin-hugging synthetic outfits are also more likely to tear and may require maintenance like machine washing the clothes, a certain temperature of the water, etc. All of this can add up to the costs, and besides, unless you’re wearing your spandex pants to your gym, for walks, or regularly as well, buying synthetic yoga outfits may actually be more wasteful than anything.

Natural materials, like cotton, are practical in a lot of ways. Cotton, in particular, is easy to maintain, comes in a lot of stylish options, can keep its shape, doesn’t shrink while being washed, doesn’t wrinkle easily, and is one of the most comfortable fabrics out there.

Most practised yoga enthusiasts and instructors swear by cotton as clothing material and its impact on your yoga session. For the reasons discussed above, natural clothing is usually superior to synthetic material. Additionally, cotton fabric can be used in all parts of your yoga outfit if you wish, with comfortable pants, tops, and even cotton sports bras available for those who want to take advantage of the natural properties of this material.

If you’re looking for the right fabric for yoga outfits, cotton might just be the solution to your problem.
